IDEA in action
We’re proud to share our commitment to showing up with strength, clarity and intention. Explore the Crown Effect through our four IDEA pillars.
Thought Leadership: Your ideas. Our platform.
In 2025, we joined the conversation and shone a light on diverse perspectives through sponsorships, research, articles, panels and national campaigns. We’re eager to share the following highlights.
DEI Studio at the 2025 RIMS Canada Conference
Sovereign made its mark at the 2025 RIMS Canada Conference in Calgary – one of the industry’s biggest gatherings of risk and insurance professionals. As sponsor of the conference’s DEI Studio, we created space for meaningful dialogue about inclusion and resilience in the insurance industry.
Colette Taylor, EVP and COO, Sovereign, and Oussama El Allaoui, Underwriting Specialist, chatted about leadership growth and the value of mentorship, while AVP Broker Distribution, Lance Chipudhla, joined our partners from the Canadian Association of Black Insurance Professionals and Link Canada for a candid discussion on underrepresentation and how collaboration fosters more inclusive workplaces. Beyond the sessions, our teams built connections with brokers, partners, and peers, reinforcing Sovereign’s role as a thought partner and advocate for progress.
Throughout the week, The Crown Effect was in full force—visible in our branded activations, energizing conversations, and industry partnerships. Supporting initiatives like the McGannon Foundation and investing in IDEA-focused dialogue reflects more than participation; it demonstrates who we are as an organization.
By showing up with clarity, intention, and a focus on building resilient, inclusive futures, Sovereign continues to protect Canadian businesses and communities while shaping a stronger industry for all.
International Women's Day
In March of 2025, our very own Colette Taylor, Sovereign’s EVP & COO, participated in a special, candid conversation over high tea with BFL Canada’s President & COO, Lisa Giannone.
Colette’s seven-year-old daughter and Lisa’s 16-year-old daughter also joined the conversation by asking their own set of thoughtful questions about leadership, confidence, and what it’s like to be a CEO.
When asked what drives her to succeed as a woman in leadership, Colette said:
“It's the opportunity to pay it forward. How lucky I am to sit in this role and dedicate myself so that we don't go backwards. Our kids inherit a better working environment than what we did when we joined. It's a privilege and responsibility and I'm so lucky to be part of that.”

DEI survey sponsorship with Canadian underwriter
For the fourth year in a row, we partnered with Canadian Underwriter to sponsor a DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) survey, asking brokers to share their perspectives on how they view DEI in their workplace and in the industry.
From February to March, nearly 400 Canadian Insurance brokers responded from across the country. From this survey, we were able to see that partners who prioritize IDEA report stronger employee retention, a more robust workplace culture, increased customer satisfaction, and more innovation within the industry.
To help business leaders access tangible data, practical insights, and steps to create the conditions for the benefits of DEI initiatives to thrive in their organizations, we worked with Canadian Underwrite to create this interactive site.
We also shared insights from the survey through thought leadership articles that include practical steps to embedding meaningful DEI initiatives in organizations:
Partner Engagement: Your passion. Our impact
Through partner donations and strategic partnerships with Link Canada and CABIP, we’re reflecting who we are at our core: a purpose-driven organization committed to strengthening Canadian communities, together with our trusted partners.
Partner Impact Fund
Your Call, Our Action! We know our partners care about their communities, and that’s something we all have in common.
This year at Sovereign, we helped our partners donate over $75,000 in 2025 to causes that were near and dear to them across Canada. Some examples include donations to Second Harvest, Centraide Québec et Chaudière-Appalaches, and the Bell Park Academic Centre.
Collaborations
In 2026, we renewed our partnership with Canadian Association of Black Insurance Professionals (CABIP). We are proud to stand with CABIP. Together, we advocate for representation, inclusion and advancement of Black insurance professionals within the Canadian insurance industry.
We also onboarded a new partner in 2025, Link Canada. We are proud to support Link in their main objective: to advocate, educate and elevate the LGBTQ2S+ community in Canada and create a safe space for folks in the community to connect on a professional level.

Mentorship and Talent: Your ambition. Our support.
In 2025, we engaged face-to-face with the leaders of tomorrow. Through our partnerships with the McGannon Foundation and CABIP, and inviting students into our office, we provided hands-on experiences to inspire the next generation.
McGannon Foundation
We partner with the McGannon Foundation to support post-secondary education aligned to the evolving needs of our industry, with Sovereign executives serving on the board to help shape its future direction. Through financial support and hands-on student experiences, we help connect learning with real-world applications
CABIP Career fair
This year we were one again excited to join Canadian Association of Black Insurance Professionals (CABIP) in supporting Black insurance professionals to discover a purpose-driven career in our industry at CABIP’s annual career fair.
Take our kids to work day
This year’s Take Our Kids to Work Day gave grade nine students an inside look at life at Sovereign.
The day kicked off with sessions on insurance careers, where students learned about the many roles that keep the industry running and why they matter. Later, they jumped into Marketing 101 to see how ideas turn into campaigns and why creativity matters.
Along the way, they met Sovereign professionals, asked questions, and toured the office, making it a day filled with learning and meaningful conversations.

Community Commitment: Your community. Our Commitment.
Strengthening our communities is fuelled by every small action and starts by empowering Canadians. In 2025, our employees rolled up their sleeves with 2,083 volunteer hours and donating over $39,000 in employee impact funding to local organizations and initiatives.
Our impact didn’t stop there; Sovereign was also proud to donate funds to Indspire, Food Banks Canada, Egale, Long Ago Peoples Place and the Yukon Wildlife Preserve.
